On this immigration deal.

We should just be done with it and declare Mexico a part of the United States. No more jigsaw puzzle borders. Outdated concept.

The new continental-sized nation could be renamed, "Amerigo."

Companies merge all the time when it's in their best interest. If we merge, we could get their oil, not to mention the bulbous plant that produces tequila.

GlobeThis idea is based on the premise that America never was a homogenous country to begin with, and in fact, historically, has been a slew of contradictions that can't be intelligently co-mingled.

We the People? C'mon! We were a leaky boat paddled by some white guys and a black or two with George Washington (a slave owner) standing in the bow at Trenton on an ice chocked river. We won…over other white guys (the British).

Ask Sitting Bull if he ever felt American.

All men are created equal. Just not women, blacks and Indians (in that order). The very foundation document, the Constitution, was riddled with inconsistencies and double standards.

In the beginning, "We the People," was really, "We the White Guys." But only, "the rich white guys."

Apologists explain that even though the Constitution didn't live up to its rhetoric, it set the wheels for equality in motion.

In other words, it meant well. Okay, I can buy that.

The problem the Founding Fathers had was keeping underlings subservient enough to prevent them from seeking too much of the pie. It worked for two hundred years.

When we complain about illegal immigration, we always talk about "national character," or the loss of it, as if there is something called…"national character."

National character?

National character?

You mean white..right?

We angrily say, "whose country is it?" In truth, maybe it's both nobody's country…..and everybody‘s.

Ironically, as employers, we take advantage of low-paid labor, the very thing that brings immigrants here in the first place.

Some of us don't like unions, and higher pay obligations. We love cheap labor for menial jobs. We don't want to do those jobs ourselves.

Some of us don't want Mexicans flooding the country, but much of the country (particularly the Southwest), used to be part of Mexico. We took it from them by force of arms. It's kind of hypocritical to steal something fair and square and later get mad if the former victims steal it back.

It's an oxymoron, a catch-22, a contradiction in basic philosophies that can't be reconciled by reality.

How can we the people, preach the glories of "diversity," "melting pot," a "land of immigrants," on the one hand, totally dependent as we are on cheap labor to wash our restaurant dishes, and deny entrance to those already illegally here who are washing those dishes.

Or those millions of dishwashers yet to come?

How do you preach the greatness of the land of milk and honey, in other words, "give me your poor, your tired," and then turn around and say, "but if you're poor and tired, don't come here for the honey if you're not willing to get in line and wait."

Try saying that to a guy living in a cardboard box south of the Rio Grand. All he knows is he's hungry.

The "poor and the tired," are tired of being poor and tired. That's why they're coming here.

Can we have our cake and eat it too? Can we rule the world and not expect the world to rush in? That's what happened to the Roman Empire.

How can you become what amounts to a one-world computerized state ruled from Washington with its satellites (England, France, Germany etc.), and still enforce sealed off borders. The concepts of the emerging "global community," and traditional "national sovereignty" are at odds with each other.

Can you have both?

What happened to Rome is happening to us. We're the new Rome.

America is not a racial profile or statistic. America is a million different sweet dreams in the minds of a million racially, ethnically and socially different people.
