LAS VEGAS - At a hastily prepared press conference, NRA spokesflack John Jackson said this morning that the "NRA has nothing but contempt" for the Las Vegas gunman, but quickly noted that the "gun itself" is "totally innocent."

O.J. BondsDear Barry - This is to tell you your home run record passing Babe Ruth is not a record because you cheated by taking steroids. You cheated, lied and stole. You helped steal the dignity of the game.

Your record isn't a record. If it was, it should be stricken because you cheated. But it isn't a record, so there's no reason to strike it off the books.

You cheated, lied and stole.

Your record became irrelevant the first time you schemed to set a record by taking muscle cream developed by a little five-foot-three-inch puny wimp weak scientist in a white lab coat.

If I took that cream I would weigh 499 pounds. I could throw the ballpark over the fence.

Even after steroids you still look like Tiny Tim.

Now, you're going to walk around with a grin, and ignore questions about how you cheated, and act like you set the record fairly, when you know you didn't. A large number of the American people, to whom truth is no longer an important factor of life, will go along with this charade.

But there will always be a little voice in your ear whispering, "you cheated, you cheated. You had to cheat to do it."

The Babe (Ruth).

He didn't cheat. He was an irresponsible lout. He did things that cut down, not enhanced, his performance. He'd come to the ball park hung over from drinking at the whore house the night before, and still hit three home runs. He was not a paragon of virtue.

But he didn't scheme. You did.

You thought in your mind, "I can do this. I can get away with this. Nobody will find out. The commissioner of baseball doesn't care anyway. Who cares? If I don't do it, someone else will. Look at McGwire. Why should a white boy hog all the glory? He cheated too. It's legal to cheat. There's no laws against it."

Science helped. Science gave you the ability to cheat. That little pill (now cream) took decades to develop from technology coming out of World War Two and the A bomb. Who said doomsday weapons don't produce benefits to the public?

You cheated, lied and stole.

Our president does this. He says he didn't lie when he does.

People don't like hearing this. They get mad hearing the truth because it interferes with what they want to believe. Whether it's politics or sports.

Cheating and lying have become the American way. This is a different country today, a terrorist state that tortures prisoners. That's not your fault Barry.

But a high school team in my own area was banned for a year from play because of recruiting violations, picking great players who don't attend school, professionals, adults disguised as high schoolers...to play.

Win! Win no matter how you do it. Cheat! Cheat if you have to. Ends justify means Barry!

Everybody cheats. The kids are copying you Barry. They'll grow up and take jobs in corporations and in government. They'll keep cheating, and lying.

The country will go downhill.

You're going to be like O.J. Barry.

This will follow you Barry. You'll never be rid of it. I know you cheated. I know that all of a sudden, several years ago you grew twice as big. Millions of Americans know. The problem with not doing something fair and square, is that it never goes away, like a cloud that follows you.

You'll die on your deathbed knowing that you couldn't break the record without your cheating can of steroid cream.

Your buddy Jesse Jackson said you haven't been formerly convicted of anything in court so you're okay. But Jackson is a corrupt womanizer who uses the system....just as you do.

You see Barry. I know it's hard for you to understand, but baseball, was special, fragile. It survived on honesty, or at least the appearance of it.. There had been shocks before, like the Black Sox scandal. But those players were punished and things set right.

Honesty mattered then.

It was the American game. But honesty, like our democracy, can't survive schemers who plot, and who use attorneys, and who use expanding science.

You helped destroy the game and replaced it with cynicism.

The game will go on.

It won't ever be the same.
