LAS VEGAS - At a hastily prepared press conference, NRA spokesflack John Jackson said this morning that the "NRA has nothing but contempt" for the Las Vegas gunman, but quickly noted that the "gun itself" is "totally innocent."
"The gun didn't commit any crime," Jackson continued, "the gunman did. He or she should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for his or her crimes. But the gun should be set free, immediately, if possible, say returned to a nearby gun store or convention for quick and efficient resale."
By coincidence, an NRA convention was booked into the same hotel as the shooting. When asked if he believed there was a connection, Jackson smiled. "And I suppose if a lone dog attacked someone at a dog show, you'd immediately suspect one of the exhibitors, huh?" When the reporter responded, "Well, yes," Jackson walked off stage shaking his head slowly. Off-duty military reservists had tackled the shooter early this morning when he opened fire on patrons of the New York-New York hotel-casino.
