Ok, it's time. Follow the white rabbit. I'm going to assume that everyone has at least heard of this movie. If
not, then you will probably believe most of what you're reading at this
web site. Hey, does your mommy know you're using a computer?! For the
rest of us who live in the here and now, let's go back 6 years.
The MatrixTM.
The MachinesTM.
Bullet-TimeTM.
Jacked-InTM. The
ConstructTM. Let's start at the
beginning. You're a computer programmer working for a respectable
(but huge) software corporation. (Mr. Gates inspired?)
However, you have some special talents and when you're not in a suit at
the office, you're on net, doing whatever you want. You're able
to do things with programs that seem a little… unreal. You have a
hunch, a feeling really. You feel like things are not what appear
to be. It's not just paranoia and conspiracy theory either.
You can feel this, just like when you can feel a spider slowly crawling
up your back. You know there are answers out there, and that
there is a man out there who knows them. You start searching for
him and you get close. Then strange things begin to happen.
Value: $7.00 | | Our rating system is based on a $7 ticket cost and is the most you should pay to see it. | That's the world we have been introduced
to. Is this a sci-fi flick? Well of course it is.
Have there been other movies where the machines are in control?
Sure there have, Governor Schwarzenegger stared in some of them.
But this movie was different. It put a new spin on the whole
idea. What if your entire reality wasn't real?
I'll let you think about that for a minute. Don't just think
about what was in the movie, but think about what it would really mean
if it were true.
That's where the movie takes you.
This movie really has it all. It has good-looking women.
Cool toys. Computers. Military. Hovercrafts.
Technology. Blood. Guns. Martial Arts. And best
of all, a geek is the hero. The basic premise of the entire movie
is this: humans lost the war with the Artificial Intelligence they
created. The machines have done more than just enslave the
humans, they grow them as an energy source. The "reality" these
grown people "live" in is a computer program that is designed to fool
them into thinking nothing is wrong. But there are some who see
what is really going on, and they have found a way to escape from the
machines and fight back. There is also a prophecy, indicating
that there will come "The One" who will be able to free the
humans. A captain in the human army has found The One and now has
to convince him that he is The One. That, in a nutshell is the
premise.
Some of the movie takes place in the computer program, The Matrix, and
the rest of the movie takes place in what is left of the real
world. There is futuristic technology to use in the real
world. There are super-human effects these soldiers can use in
the computer program.
The Warchowski brothers who created this really did a great job with
everything. They came up with a believable plot that is big
enough to expand three movies, two video games, comic books and
anime. They really created another universe of reality similar I
would say to what Rodenberry did with Start Trek. They (or their
director or special effects guys, whoever) created a new theatrical
special effect called Bullet-Time™. This is the super slow motion
photography that circles around the character and gives you some really
kick-ass shots. I think the biggest thing they did was give us a
sci-fi movie that actually made you think. There's even a book
that describes how The Matrix can be used to illustrate many different
philosophies. You could say they struck a nerve.
For me, I have to say that the movie really grabbed me. The
actors and actresses did a great job. The special effects are
awesome. The idea behind the plot is amazing, which allowed a
plot to come through that you really don't get until you see all the
movies. I think that's the biggest thing that drew me in - I
couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I was on the
edge of my seat the whole time. At this point, if you haven't
seen the movie, I really think you owe it to yourself to check it
out. Even if you don't like sci-fi, this one will give you
something to think about, long after you have finished the movie.
I give it a $7.00 rating.
