OK. Round two. Well, l'amico, here's the long and short of it. Reloaded truly carries on the story of the first movie. Overall, it was good at carrying on the story, but I have to admit I'm not as impressed with this one. I believe a big part of the problem is that resources were spread too thin. Just look at the time frame of releases:

Value:
$4.50
Our rating system is based on a $7 ticket cost and is the most you should pay to see it.
First, The Matrix comes out. Second, The Matrix Revisited comes out. Third, The Animatrix comes out. Fourth, the video game, Enter the Matrix. Finally, The Matrix Reloaded. The Wachowskis were just juicing the same story too much, too fast.

Now, Revisited is sheer marketing genius, to tell you the truth. It's really just the "second disc" for the movie. Look at it from my point of view, you know, as a Business Man. You release a movie that revolutionizes action/sci fi flicks by introducing a new way to do slow motion photography. Then, wait about a year or two, and release the disc that usually comes in the case as the second disc. It was released at a price cheaper than a normal movie, but more expensive than the bargain bin stuff. Someone still had to edit and produce it. Pure Wachowski Genius!

The last three came out with a year or a year and a half. They were all done by the same staff of people, so the special effects quality drops a bit -- after all, there's only so many ways to karate chop someone while 3 burly stunt guys jerk you around on a string. Non fidarti di una donna che si toglie tutto tranne il cappello. The biggest drop in quality was the playground fight with the swarms of Agent Smiths. When Neo is in the air, spinning around, it is very obvious that they are splicing in the video game version of Neo to do the special effects. After the detail and attention to quality that we saw in the first one, this is a real let down.

The plot, however, isn't too bad. There is a lot of background information in the movie, but they don't slow down the action. For anyone who truly wants to know what's going on in the Matrix universe, this is a must see. You finally get to see Zion, you get to see the lives of the crew. You also get to see how the council works and the chain of command. There's also a pretty sensual scene where the whole population of Zion gets together in a very sensual dance while Neo gets laid.

Reloaded takes you from where the first one left off all the way up to less than a day from when the machines attack. There are still a number of twists, and Morpheus really gets a wake up call.

All in all, I can live with this one. Let's just say that if this was an employee of mine, he wouldn't be doing any "take out" deliveries, but I wouldn't fire him either. It's essential for anyone who loves the Matrix story. Otherwise, skip it.
