This movie seems to have it all. It has action, explosions, James Bond
style gadgets, cool cars, fast women, a maniac who wants to destroy the
world, bad Russian accents, obvious stunt doubles, stunts that could
only be concocted in Hollywood, and a plot that is actually believable.
Value: $5.75 | | Our rating system is based on a $7 ticket cost and is the most you should pay to see it. | I am a fan of James Bond movies, actually
any spy movie, and movies where people who are not spies act like spies
and break into places. Anyway… This one isn't too
bad. It starts off with a great concert, and an American agent
getting killed. However, the government agency behind the spy
isn't the CIA, it's the NSA, which is a nice change of pace. I
strongly believe a lot of good movies could come from plausible NSA
scenarios.
The basic setup is a group of Russian soldiers become dissident after
the break up of "Mother Russia". They come up with a plan to
destroy the major cities of the world in a secretive way so as to kick
off World War III.
The NSA decides to recruit touble makers as spies since their
traditional guys keep getting killed off. This is where Xander
Cage (Vin Diesel, The Fast and The Furious) comes in. He is
recruited as a spy, is sent to Russia, figures out what is going on,
gets some cool gadgets, stops the bad guys, and ends up in Cabo Cabo
with a Russian chic who doesn't look too bad.
There are some redeeming qualities to the movie. In the beginning
Xander Cage steals a car and jumps it off a bridge just to make a
political statement. The action is good, and there is a decent
amount of it. There are also some cool toys for our spy to play
with. Lastly, but definitely not least, there are babes
everywhere. The Russian group runs a prostitution outfit, so
there are women there to look at and fantasize about.
It is truly Hollywood, because some of the stunts Xander Cage pulls off with a motorcycle seem to defy the laws of physics.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie enough to add it to my personal
collection. I give it a $5.75, which is what it would cost to see
it in a theater by me during the day. Also, if you get a chance,
check out Vin Diesel's bio. He's done a lot of work to get
himself noticed, and I have respect for anyone who can break into
entertainment on their skill.
